ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ Council commitment to 100% plant-based food for internal catering of meetings and events - Petitions (Open)

Petition details
Due to the immense impact animal agriculture is having on global warming and the broader environmental crisis, this petition is seeking a firm commitment from ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ council to serve 100% plant-based food for all council events and meetings, setting an example to the rest of the city.
Farming animals is one of the largest causes of methane emissions, which are rapidly accelerating climate change. Increasing demand for animal products is the biggest driver for deforestation and habitat loss globally. Waste from animals is a major source of water pollution, causing algal blooms in rivers and creating oceanic dead zones. Switching to plant based eating is one of the simplest and most effective ways we can address these key environmental issues.
ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ was the first capital city in Europe to endorse the call for a Plant Based Treaty in response to the climate emergency. However, in section 3.3, the treaty implementation plan specifically omitted ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ council committing to serving 100% plant based food: "this action plan does not seek to eliminate meat and dairy served by the Council or in the city'.
We are asking for the council to drop meat and dairy products from all its internal functions, in line with the principle of its Plant Based Treaty endorsement, and its commitment to Net Zero by 2030. It is not rational for the council to exempt itself from making the change it has boldly declared to be necessary.
